70th World Health Assembly

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board.
Two years after the introduction of WHA resolution 68.15, which recognized the important role of strengthening surgical and anaesthesia care as part of universal health coverage, we would like to reflect on commitments and progress made by countries and civil society partners to help advance this landmark resolution.

G4 Alliance Permanent Council Meeting
In parallel with the 70th World Health Assembly, the G4 Alliance held its first Permanent Council Meeting on May 20th and 21st. If you missed it, watch the recordings!
Surgery Advocacy EvenT
This advocacy event will convene a group of global leaders to discuss progress towards WHA resolution 68.15, as well as the challenges faced to date and the importance of partnerships and collaborations. The event will feature special remarks from ministers of health taking action to implement national surgical and anaesthesia care plans, as well as the civil society partners who are helping to strengthen surgical and anaesthesia care.

Official Side Event Hosted by WHO Member STates
The WHO has approved an official side event entitled: "Scaling-up Access to Emergency & Essential Surgical, Obstetric and Anesthesia care for better health systems and sustainable development."
This event is scheduled for May 26 at 12:00pm in the Palais des Nations (Special WHA Passes required) and is co-sponsored by Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Nicaragua, Tonga, United Republic of Tanzania, Viet Nam and Zimbabwe.
