The Johns Hopkins Global Surgical Initiative works to improve the health of populations living in resource-constrained areas of the world through direct service, research, education and advocacy focused on the provision of surgical, obstetrical, and anesthesia services for the purpose of supporting capacity and skills development in these disciplines.

The Global Surgical Initiative is a collaboration of the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. The Initiative was founded to coordinate global health initiatives that integrate surgical, obstetrical and anesthesia education and training, service, research and advocacy.
