The International College of Surgeons (ICS)
The International College of Surgeons (ICS) is comprised of 6,000 surgeons in more than 100 countries. The mission of the ICS is to promote education, research, communications, and leadership in surgery. ICS seeks to improve the lives of patients through the development and education of surgeons and the advancement of the field of surgery.
Fundamentally a humanitarian organization, ICS has maintained official relations with the WHO as a non-governmental member for approximately 20 years. ICS is also a member of the WHO’s Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC). The College believes that collaboration is key to providing basic surgical training in as many countries as possible, via the ICS section and federation structure.
