The goal of the Regional Consultative Meeting was to discuss advocacy and policy efforts and to contribute to the development of a G4 plan in support of increased access to safe and high-quality surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia care.
This consultative meeting represented a collaboration between the G4 Alliance, COSECSA and the Surgical Association of Malawi (SAM) and was overseen by distinguished guests from the WHO and ministries of health. The meeting focused on the importance of developing a shared advocacy and policy platform as a strategy to build greater priority for neglected surgical issues. A process for developing a global action plan was presented, and input regarding a series of framework elements including: key messages, global standards and guidelines for surgical care, as well as data collection and a global accountability framework, was sought.
