The First Annual G4 Alliance Gala
A Night of Illumination
Igniting Change for the Neglected Surgical Patient
Saturday, November 4, 2017 | 6:30 - 10:30 PM
House of Sweden | Washington, DC
This inaugural charity event will raise critical funds to support the G4's mission of advocating for the 5 billion neglected surgical patients currently living around the world and will shed light on the urgent need for increased access to safe, essential, and timely surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anaesthesia care as part of primary health care.
Around the world today, more people die from surgically treatable conditions than from HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Due to gross inequity in access to life-saving healthcare services, untreated surgical conditions contribute to over 17 million deaths each year, and millions more suffer lifelong disability. The burden of this global surgery gap falls largely upon low- and middle-income countries, where the poorest third of the world population receives only 6.3% of all surgical procedures. Investing in surgical care not only helps to improve the health of these individuals, but also contributes to the well-being of communities and the success of nations.
To bring light to this global issue, the G4 Alliance will be hosting a gala and silent auction benefit on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the House of Sweden in Washington, D.C. Themed “A Night of Illumination: Igniting Change for the Neglected Surgical Patient”, the gala will celebrate the winners of the first-ever G4 Alliance Collaboration Prize and feature entertainment, raffles, an awards ceremony, and remarks from special guests.
Dr. Robert “Bobby” Satcher, American surgeon, astronaut, and engineer, will offer keynote remarks for the event, sharing his experience leading medical mission trips in Africa and Central and South America as well as his passion for global surgery and healthcare delivery.
Access to surgery is a human right. Advocacy, awareness, and education are just the first steps. Together, we can light the way to a better world: a world where all mothers receive safe obstetric care, where no child suffers lifelong disability due to treatable congenital anomalies, where blindness can be prevented and cataracts removed with a simple surgical procedure, and where no one is left alone in darkness. We envision a world where safe, essential, and affordable surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anaesthesia care is within reach for all those in need.
