Draft II of the Declaration on Primary Health Care
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the historic Alma-Ata Declaration, the first international declaration underlining the importance of primary health care and health for all. Global surgery and anaesthesia were not included in this initial declaration, despite the urgent need for these interventions within primary care.
The world is uniting again to renew a commitment to strengthen primary health care as part of universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. A new Declaration on Primary Health Care is currently being drafted and will be published in October 2018 during the Second International Conference on Primary Health Care.
