On September 23, 2014, members from civil society gathered at the Clinton Global Initiative Meeting in New York for a global surgery & anaesthesia stakeholder meeting. This meeting, which coincided with the 2014 UN General Assembly brought together a diverse group of organizations to discuss the role of surgical care in the post-2015 era.
Participating organizations included UNFPA, WFSA, Jhpiego, Gradian Health, ASAP, Operation Smile, Lifebox, Smile Train, ICES, The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations, Johns Hopkins Global Surgery Initiative, and ReSurge International.
Statements of support were provided by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Government of the Republic of Zambia, The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
