UN HQ, New York, August 27-29, 2014
Representatives from our partner organizations represented our global surgery & anaesthesia partners at the annual UN Department of Public Information (DPI)/NGO conference, which took place at the UN headquarters from August 27-29, 2014.
The goal of this conference was to provide civil society organizations with a platform to mobilize messaging, advocacy strategies, partnerships and accountability frameworks leading up to the UN General Assembly’s intergovernmental process of reviewing goals and targets for the post-2015 sustainable development agenda.
- Over 15 verbal and written statements submitted to the UNDPI council and drafting committee in support of prioritizing surgery and anaesthesia as part of post-2015 sustainable development agenda. Our thanks to partners who submitted statements.
- Global surgery & anaesthesia partner feedback led to successful inclusion of language regarding universal health coverage (UHC) in final UN DPI/NGO Action Agenda. As reflected in the proposed 2015 WHA resolution, UHC includes “safe, essential surgical care and anaesthesia”
- Action Agenda that has been disseminated to the UN system, UN Member States, global civil society and other stakeholders. A final version of the Action Agenda can be found here.
